[St. Paul, MN, July 8, 2024] -- The Minnesota Academy of Science (MAS) is excited to announce that Kristen Barry of Cottage Grove has been selected as its new Executive Director. Barry is an experienced leader in the educational sector with a long history of fostering partnerships between schools, community organizations, and government agencies. MAS is a statewide nonprofit organization committed to connecting Minnesotans of all backgrounds with resources and opportunities to engage in science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) learning, research, and communication - and to recognize excellence in these areas.
“We are delighted that Kristen Barry will be leading MAS in our next steps to advance STEM education throughout Minnesota,” said Dr. Cindy Ward-Thompson, President of the MAS Board of Directors. “Her experience, knowledge, and enthusiasm will guide MAS in exciting new directions while assuring the continued excellence of our long-standing programs.”
Barry began her role as the MAS Executive Director on July 1, 2024. Previously, Barry served as a Senior Education Specialist with Mayo Clinic and the Director of Health and Wellbeing at the University of Minnesota, Rochester. She holds a Master’s of Science from Canisius University in Buffalo, New York.
“I’m excited to continue the fantastic MAS core programs while striving to broaden our reach in bringing STEM opportunities to even more Minnesotans,” Barry said. “I look forward to working alongside the MAS staff, Board of Directors, and our many partners to strengthen statewide access to STEM education.”
MAS’ programs include team competitions, STEM project showcases, and mentoring and enrichment programs that promote STEM inquiry and research.
